I'd take a 40 goal 30 assist guy over a 30 goal 50 assist guy, I'd take a 50 goal 30 assist guy over a 30 goal 65 assist guy, etc.
Also some of the great "playmakers" or should I rather say, great players who racked up assists, were amazing goal scorers in their own rights. Mario and Wayne have the large majority of all of the top 10 seasons of assists yet Mario also peaked at 85 goals, and Wayne 90+. So it's incorrect to call them pure playmakers, Gretzky was the best playmaker of all time, but also a damn good goal scorer too.
You also can't really call the likes of Malkin and Crosby exclusively playmakers, both of them have put up 50 goal seasons.
jumbo joe turned cheechoo into a 50+ goal scorer, and was never a ver good goalscorer, what about someone like him?
