Agreed completely. I don't understand how some people can argue the Oilers aren't intentionally doing a slow rebuild (tanking, if you will). They're not getting serviceable veteran stop-gaps at any position and working their young players in to the lineup slowly, making them earn it. They're basically throwing the kids in to the deep end and letting them learn, all the while stockpiling early picks. That's not that different from a lot of rebuilding teams though, they're just being more obvious than most that they really don't care about winning now.

If they didn't have their first round picks, you'd have seen them be a lot more aggressive with free agent signings - not the big names of course, but signing good depth guys, ex. Jokinen and Ponikarovsky signings by the Jets last summer (another small market team but one that chooses to be semi-competitive while rebuilding).
