No kidding. I also fail to see how he is a huge longshot. He has the frame and the skating ability to become a bottom six player if his offense does not pan out.
I don't think he is as boom or bust as everyone is making him out to be. As you mentioned Blake Wheeler only had 23 points in 39 games and was tied for 8th in team scoring in his first NCAA season as a
19 year old
Jankowski has 12 points in 23 games as a true freshmen on a very subpar offensive team in Providence (third on the team in PPG average). In addition to that he has also had a larger jump up in competition than Wheeler did as he went straight from prep school instead of the USHL.
Fans who were hoping for Jankowski to produce at a point per game pace as a 17/18 year old in the NCAA had misguided expectations. He is holding himself above water in what is a monumental step up in competition. That speaks volumes to his character and skill level.
