I still think this is a bit of a fallacy. 2002 was played on Olympic sized ice (both the E-centre and the rink in Provost were retro-fitted for the games) and as we all know, two North American sides made it to the Gold medal game.
I think the International/NA ice advantage/disadvantage is simply over-inflated by the media.
