I've had moments of wondering this. But I don't think it's really plausible, because as has been said, he played better than this before last season. And you can't play as magically as he did last year without the talent and skill.
I think it's a confidence issue. I think he's lost his faith in being able to play that way, so he isn't doing it. He looks really down in post-game interviews, even when they've won.
He's even doing badly in faceoffs this game.
