I can't remember a time when it seemed like they needed to move their star players in order to save the future...Maybe when they traded Owen Nolan? But that doesn't really feel the same since they hung onto other guys like Damphousse.
Of course! The year they fired Sutter they traded their captain and best player (Nolan) and a few other guys and then let players walk at the end of the season who didn't fit into the new direction. The promptly went to the conference finals for the first time the very next season.
