Seguin wasn't a good enough NHLer to play more than he was, despite his talent level. However, the year spent playing 12 minutes a night in the NHL was far more valuable to his development than being sent back to juniors. Without that year, Seguin doesn't end up leading the team in points the next season.

Miller might make mistakes, but he's looked basically the same one shift to the next. Kreider has not. That's why Miller stays and Kreider doesn't. For Tortorella, developing a guy as an NHLer is all about professionalism. Consistency from one shift to the next is part of that. Once Kreider shows that, he'll stick. Not until then.
