Ive heard billy goat taverns pretty cool, just want a place with some cheap drinks and sports fan atmosphere where I can talk some hockey over a cold one before and after the game.

1) Yes, I'd say that puts her in the front running for sure.
2) Billy Goat is fine. I prefer
West End however . Billy Goat you can walk to the UC easily. West End you can to, but it's about a 20min walk, however they do have a shuttle to take fans to the game. Get to both places EARLY though to ensure you get a decent table while you are there.
If you like good beer, there is a good place down near where West End is again called "Beer Bistro" that you can go to after the game as well. They have a pretty long beer list.
