Generally speaking, if another person does you the honour of asking for your autograph, you should be grateful for his interest. Regardless of his age or intentions.
Bill Russell doesn't give autographs, instead he insists on shaking a fan's hand instead. That is acceptable, ignoring fans or writing scribbles on their memorabilia isn't.
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Petulant athletes only demean themselves.
