But that begs the question why players like Doan and Iginla would ever want to come here in the twilight of their careers? I assume they want to win a Cup. Do they look at this roster and think they'd make it a Cup contender? Signing with us would be like re-signing with Calgary, for all intents and purposes. Even with their perpetual talent bleed, Tippett still gets Phoenix in a better position to win than us.

This is why I don't see a Perry or Getzlaf signing here. (Besides that young guys without families usually don't bend over backwards to get here.) We're not close to winning anything. If we're smart, the next GM will get some hard-working character guys on value deals to put around the talent we should be able to draft in the next year or two.
