Carl Gunnarson

There was a Value of: Carl Gunnarson thread posted about a month ago:

in which, Leafs fans shot down the possibility of trading him. In the past month, things have changed. Both Gunnarson and Gardiner were injured, giving some of our depth guys an oppurtunity to prove their worth, and they've stepped up.

Mark Fraser is averaging over 13 minutes a night while playing a solid all around game with some sandpaper. He's been playing great, and has an impressive + 13 rating on a Leafs team with a goal differential of + 10.

Korbinian Holzer and Mike Kostka have both been solid contributors each of whom have gotten a chance to play alongside Dion Phaneuf without looking out of place.

Cody Franson has had his first oppurtunity in a top-4 role in a Leafs jersey, and has been lights out. He has 11 points in 15 games and is a + 11.

Because of the strong play of those four defenceman, Liles and Komisarek have both been healthy scratches at times this year, even though their play hasn't been bad. With Gardiner's return imminent, the Leafs have 9 NHL caliber d-men:

Gunnarson is the only non-core defenceman on our depth chart who could net us a significant return. Because of this, I believe Gunnarson is likely to be the odd-man out on defense. The Leafs have good depth at every position except for goaltender so in return we'd be looking for either futures or a solid veteran goalie, or both if the goalie has some question marks attached. The asking price would likely be a 2nd + a prospect or a late first round pick. What would your team be willing to give up for Gunnarson?
