I agree with you about the talent being spread out, but there's still a point to be made that they'd be watching the best league, and I believe other soccer leagues do have TV deals in the States.

Perhaps another example would work better. Not as many people played football when they were kids as people who played basketball. Yet obviously the popularity level of the two in the U.S. is a wide gap.
