If you can't see why "Because this once-every-four-year-event does good ratings, it defines the popularity of the sport day in and day out" is a garbage argument, I can't help you.

By the way, try reading in context. My point never was that Cross country skiing and synchronized diving were popular, it was actually the opposite. The point was they're popular once every four years, just like soccer. (Granted, soccer is more popular than them day-to-day, but still virtually irrelevant nonetheless) And the rest of the year they're relatively irrelevant.
