Everybody would be calling him gutless, a player who isn't willing to sacrifice himself for the team, etc... Plus, from what I've seen of Torts, he'd surely rip him a new one for not doing what he's being ask to.
Girardi went for a percentage play. 19 times out of 20, blocking the shot is merely painful; nothing more. But every time and then, you roll a natural 1.
The whole team was already gutless that game.
Girardi was gutless when he didn't stick up for Gaborik. Other than that I don't think I'd ever call him "gutless." Is every other player in the league who doesn't block shots gutless and not willing to sacrifice for the team?
If it was the playoffs, and a close game, then yes that would probably be the reaction.
