I would agree that Patches probably hit him a bit harder because of the earlier play, but there is absolutely no way to substantiate that claim. That's probably why he didn't get suspended, imo. (I thought he'd get a game or two)
I'm not really clear on this premeditated thing. A guy lays a lick on you, you repay the favour. That's hockey, and always was.
Intent to hit a guy cleanly so he regrets his earlier attempt to behead you is expected. Intent to injure because your ego is sore is another story.
