If each game's outcome was decided by the players' past achievements, then Iginla might be worth the kind of price you're asking for. Unfortunately, that's not how things work.

Iginla has had an impressive career. No doubt a more impressive career than Wayne Simmonds could ever even think of having. But Jarome Iginla is 35 now. His cap number is $7M. He also has less than 3/4 of a lockout shortened season remaning on his contract before he could walk for nothing. All three of those things affect his value tremendously in a negative way. As does the downfall in production; Iginla is no longer a power forward, nor is he as good a goal-scorer as he once was, nor is he as fast as he once was.

Iginla is on the downside of his career while Simmonds and Voracek and the Schenns, and all the other guys you're asking for from the Flyers are already very good players who are only getting better and who have bright futures ahead of them.

Nobody is trying to trash Iginla's ridiculously good career, but at this stage in said career, the waning years, his value is way lower than it was previously. I would not trade Simmonds for him straight up let alone adding to that. And asking for Voracek as another poster suggested is an utter joke.

Not a chance. Swapping Bouwmeester for L. Schenn only adds a ton of salary and results in the Flyers having an overpaid 30 year old defenseman instead of a fairly paid 23 year old. The Flyers will still be lacking a true #1 defenseman. And asking Brayden Schenn for Iginla is just horrendous. And then there's the salary cap issues that this would create, etc.

If the Flyers were to trade for Iginla or Bouwmeester (and just to be clear, I don't think either really solves the Flyers' problems or makes them a top contender), then the most you would be getting is Laughton and maybe a conditional 1st or unconditional later picks. We're not giving up Giroux, Voracek, Schenn(s), Simmonds, Hartnell, etc.
