Sigh. And then the boards blow up after the Oilers every loss.
Which is it? Are we throwing Yakupov on the first line, playing against opposition's first lines and willing to take the loss?
Or giving Yakupov reduced minutes so that his turnovers won't cost the team as much?
Yakupov is an 18 year rookie. He needs to play against weaker lines and get used to the game. Total myth that playing on the fourth line or third line will ruin a goalscorer. Whoever thought of that hasn't watched enough hockey.
Datsyuk and Zetterberg was playing on Detroit's fourth line in their first years. Watch and learn.
Detroit and Zetterberg also came up on a team loaded with everything. These situations are not remotely comparable. They were also both much later round pics. Also, Yakupov is 19, gonna be 20 before next season starts. Why not put him in his natural position to succeed, with like minded, creative players. He's a talented, skilled winger. JMO.
