Overall, I think that we become an easier team to play against. Ryder is slower, smaller, and softer on the puck. But he does bring his scoring touch.

Mind you, Bergevin and Therrien have been preaching that it's important to have players with "character" to become tougher to play against as a team. Maybe, in their assessment, Ryder fits that mould better than Cole, at least right now.
Problem is Cole wasn't hitting this year and was floating. He's also one dimensional. The guy has the same move. He can't stickhandle and can't pass. I'd rather Ryder on the PP than him. If he's not crashing the net, he's virtually useless. Then there's that extra 2 years at 4.5M. I'm glad we bailed now rather than later....which is something Gauthier and Gainey would have done.
