I love Roberto Luongo. But that feat can *in part* be explained by the different eras these goalies competed in.

When this Patrick Roy was playing, stopping 9 out of 10 pucks was statistically a decent to good night.

Today, it is a bad night.

Put some REAL goaltending equipment, the kind that is designed to PROTECT a goalie on Luongo and let's see how he'd do :p

There are other factors like great team defense play and improvements in goalie coaching. I suspect several young goalies are going to do just the same and shatter Roy's (or most of these past eras goalies) career save% unless the game changes from what it is right now.

One way to compare them *slightly* more accurately would be to check where they ranked among goalies each year and compare this.

However, any statistical comparison in hockey is always but one side of a story, IMO.
