No, they traded a player who cannot produce anymore to the level of his contract, and would have been a burden both from from a cap and a team development perspective as he would have taken the place next year of an excellent prospect. Habs get rid of a non-producing forward at the tail of his career and most importantly his cap space, in exchange for a still-producing forward at the tail of his career that bears no cap space for next year.

This trade was strictly business.
