Picks are picks. Matching is having the player who is worth those picks right now with Duchene and Landeskog already accruing years towards getting raises. Good move by both teams.
The problem now is that Duchene, Landeskog, and O'Reilly will all be needing new deals in the same offseason and O'Reilly has a 6.5m qualifying offer.
My question is that if the Avs value O'Reilly so much that they matched this deal in a few hours, why wasn't a deal done much sooner? Obviously money wasn't that big of a deal, because he's getting 6.5m next year
