Didn't Montreal do that to Gomez? They told him to stay home, until they bought him out or the season was over. And then the NHLPA was concerned that for Gomez being forced to spend an entire year away from hockey would adversely affect his ability to find employment elsewhere in the NHL during the 2013 off-season, so there was a compromise between the NHL and the NHLPA.
Yeah I mentioned that above. Both Montreal and the Rangers were going to simply sit Gomez and Redden for the season.
