It's certainly possible that Boyle was a bit overrated in that season. San Jose's coach didn't trust him much in the beginning and protected him at even-strength, only to discover in the next season (and every season since then) that Boyle was by far his best even-strength defenseman. If Boyle was overrated that year, it was no more than he has been underrated in other seasons, like both of the last two years. These things tend to even out over the course of a career. Tinkering around with the results often introduces as many distortions as it remedies.
I think it was more Duncan Keith being underrated due to lack of PP time at that point than Boyle being overrated. Anyway, I agree that these things tend to even out over the course of a career.
