First of all, we don't need another defense men. If we move Gaborik, a defense man isn't coming the other way. There is no reason to move Del Zotto in this trade. Our defensive core is set with Del Zotto, McDonagh, Staal and Girardi.

Secondly, WPG would need to give up a lot more than Little to acquire Gaborik. That is a no brainer.

Thirdly, I think all of this Gaborik trade talk is a little premature. Let's see how Nash can do with a full season under his belt in NY before we trade a guy who has scored 40 goals for us twice. A 17 game sample with Rick Nash, as great as he has looked, is too small a sample to say "we're set here, let's trade our top scoring winger."
Little is worth more than Gaborik and Zach B. is worth way more than Del Zotto.

Maybe Gaborik has better numbers but Little is an affordable and versatile player that many teams want and need. As a Habs fan Little makes sense but Gaborik doesn't unless you want Bourque + Kaberle or Gionta which doesn't help you at all. With a shrinking cap next year there will be even less interest in Gaborik.

Little will fetch a good young player or two on a good contract in return and Gaborik might fetch a Heatley or someone like that.

Look at what we got for Cole, I'd rather have Cole then Gaborik because of cap space and all we got was a 3rd and an expiring contract for a 35 goal scorer last year. It's all about freeing up cap space not adding $7.5 million when teams have to shed $5 million or so.

Zach B. would be worth about the same as what J. Staal fetched last year and Del Zotto would never get anything near that in trade.
