Giving proven stars big money isn't a problem to me, you lock up players like Getzlaf because they are a rare breed. The long-term deals I have problems with are the ones being handed out to unproven players, example for us would be Ville Leino or guys that just had one really good year but has a lot of ?'s like Lupul. You could look at Myers as well, but that was a different situation since there was a chance that Myers was going to be a franchise defenseman and that deal could actually end up looking like good market value. It was a risk, but it's one that I don't mind taking. Same thing could be said about signing any young unproven player to long-term mega deals (Hall, Eberle, etc) those are all risky deals, but they are ones that could end up paying off.
