Apparently Kinkaid is supposed to be the heir apparent, but not getting the trust for NHL time. On one hand I feel like this is a taste of what life will be like for their franchise after Brodeur. You just cant replace a guy like that. Its kind of like the Yankee haters salivating over the end of the Rivera-era. No doubt its going to be a tough transition, especially when you build a team from the back on out.
But knowing Lou and the Devils, theyll find some undrafted phenom or theyll fleece out a top goalie prospect from some chump-team. I think what we really want to see happen from our perspective is to see both Marty AND Lou go. Those two maybe the most instrumental pair regarding the success of an NHL team, maybe top 5 or 10 all time.
They will find a way. They always find a way.
The real story here about franchises who rely on their HoF caliber goaltender too much and will be in big trouble when he is gone is the New York Rangers. I don't even want to think about it. Hopefully Sather will be gone by then as well.
