Armstrong is much the same as what Pyatt was like when he was in a Habs uniform - Defensively reliable and decent work ethic/compete level, but couldn't score if his life depended on it. That's tolerable on the fourth line as long as you're getting enough offense from the Top 9 and your D. And we are.
Wrong. Pyatt didn't have a zero goal season with us (though admittedly 6 goals in 118 games is low). Tommy also had a higher compete level than Colby and MUCH greater speed. Pyatt was a third-liner who unfortunately lost favour with the fans and Jacques Martin after the beatdown by Campbell illegally using his elbow pad. But the Habs record with Pyatt in or out of our lineup was
different. He contributed quality minutes and helped protect leads moving up even onto a top two line late in close games.
When Pyatt played with Moore and Lapierre in the 2010 playoffs, they were an excellent third line and scored some important goals.
Armstrong on the other hand is a useless, low-performance automaton. He should be a spare ideally.
