We all know this is a semi-transitional season for this team. I think we keep forgetting this is the 27th or 28th game? This is Smith's sophomore season. He entered the NHL on fire but has cooled off and struggled to find his offensive game since then I'll grant you that but there is a reason there is a thing called a sophomore slump. Many young players take a few seasons to truly become comfortable. This is a team starved for talent so when you have a young skilled guy like Smith you have to put him in successful situations and be patient.
Out of hand just about as much as the folks that keep preaching hes a top 6 guy. A few facts Smith is 23 played two years of college hockey ( which is not the best option to develop players) He played 0 time in the AHL he was selected 4th round 98th overall. He had 36 points as a rookie that got everyone all horny here that hes the next Hart trophy winner. He has failed miserablly this year, it does not matter that the rest of the top forwards have been poor were talking about a guy thats way over his head and will most likley be out of hockey in two years. I think my evaluation of him his skill and longevity in the league is alot closer than anyone weho thinks hes a top 6 guy.
