Question: why has Alexander Ovechkin's offensive zone start % gone from 58% when he was scoring 60 goals to 52-53% the last few seasons? Why do they have a center that's scored 100+ points taking 45% of O zone starts (Backstrom) while Ribeiro is getting the highest o-zone starts on the team outside of MoJo?

I know Ribeiro has been good this year, but all of this seems like really dumb utilization by the Capitals. If I had Ovechkin on my team he'd start in the offensive zone 60+% of the time.

His on-ice SH% has dropped from 12-14% to 10%. That's still good, but his zone utilization and linemate usage is baffling. If Ovechkin has lost anything at all, it's his ability to explode into the zone and beat a guy to score a goal. He's still a great shooter that pounces on loose pucks, and the Capitals are using him in a way that magnifies his deficiencies and doesn't maximize his outrageous talents.

What a dumb team.
