Gionta is fine. He's solid defensively, chipping in offensively. I was hard on him at the start of the year because the other lines weren't clicking and he wasn't stepping up. But now that we have 3 lines rolling and the Pleks line is back to playing top offensive competition, Gionta just has to play well defensively and chip in offensive. $5M was always too much, but it's not an albatross like Gomez was. I would even consider resigning Gionta, if he continues working hard and playing well on a "checking offensive" line with Pleks for $3M after his contract expires, if we don't have a better option..
