I actually think the Jeff Carter trade is a good comparison. Yes, Gabby is a better player - but Carter was 27 and locked up long term with a friendly cap it, Gaborik is 31 with a year until UFA. And though he has been awesome for most of his time in NYR, the inconsistency/injury prone tag stigma is still on him.

If they could get back a solid roster player that fits a need with a decent size contract, along with a pick and a maybe a depth player, that seems more realistic
My thoughts exactly. The flyers got Voracek, a first (Couturier) and a third. The Jackets got Jack Johnson and a first round pick. I think we can get a solid roster player, depth player and a 3rd rounder for Gabby, which would be a good haul IMO and could help create the depth we lost for Nash.
