This team was at it's best with a pure, faceoff winning, defensive 3rd line center. It allowed players like Kesler to be freed up to play offensively, it improves our puck possession and PK. It stabilizes our bottom 6. AV's strategy, line matching, etc. requires this type of player on the team.
#2. We need a PP specialist.
Without Kesler this year we have no PP. Without an above average PP we are not winning games, either in the regular season or the playoffs. The big reason we are slumping so much this year? Our PP is currently 27th in the league and have been top 5 the last 2 seasons (I believe #1 and #4).
I don't think there is ANY point in bringing in assets for a long playoff run if you are going to bank on Ryan Kesler being healthy throughout it. Then you're left with another Raymond at #2 C situation.
I'd rather they trade for a offensive center, and grab a defensive rental that can play a 4th line role until Kesler inevitably bows out of the post-season with an injury.
