Had Kesler and Malhotra not been injured we'd be a 2nd line winger away from a powerhouse. On paper.

The amount Malhotra is undervalued here is criminal. You bet your sweet ass Gillis would take a serious run at a Malhotra pre-injury over almost any other player at the deadline this year, if he existed.
On paper is the key phrase. Neither Malholtra or Kesler have been healthy since the 2011, and I have no faith that Kesler can a) stay healthy b) play a smart game and use his wingers to create the 2nd line the Canucks need.

Canucks have NO center depth, let alone NHL centers who can produce when Kesler is injured. Getting another Manny is just going to make the Canucks a better version of the team now. One that outside of the Sedins cannot produce sustained offensive pressure. Canucks need a hybrid of Manny and Kesler. Someone who can when Kesler is out, center the 2nd line and not look lost and when Kesler is back center the 3rd line and take some of the defensive responsibilities away from Kesler.

Canucks tried getting another Manny last season when they acquired Pahlsson, it didn't really work.
