I think it's unfortunate what's happened to EJ. He had what I thought was a brilliant rookie season after a great WJC and solid collegiate season at Minnesota. He seemed like a great guy off the ice, a fun personality, and the makings of a star. I don't think it's a simplistic to say he was never the same after the knee injury because he hasn't been the same. It seemed like he never was as mobile, became tentative offensively, and lost a great deal of confidence with the puck. And now he's settled into a role as a solid enough defensive player but nothing resembling the two-way force he should've been. He really was outstanding in 2007-08.
