This team could have avoided a lot of problems if they just hung on to Orr in the first place. He was more than capable in his role. The heavy is a dying breed in today's NHL though, so perhaps it was good foresight by Slats and co. (though not really, considering who they brought in after Orr... RIP Boogey Man).
I think the team and coaching staff are preaching something different, just look at it. Mash comes up and doesn't drop the gloves. Haley comes up and gets in two fights. Those guys are noted brawlers, and toned it down when they got the call up. Is that the coaching staff telling the players not to fight?
Team toughness is a bit of an issue though. Rangers get pushed around like there's no tomorrow after the whistle most nights. Can't clear the crease effectively either.
