There was a time not long ago when games between these two teams were lackluster. The last time we missed the playoffs (2007-08), the Kings finished 29th in the NHL and drafted subsequently drafted Drew Doughty. That year, we lost three of our four meetings against the bottom-dwelling LA squad.

The only time we won that year may have been the most memorable. It was on March 10, 2008, just over five years ago. It was a goaltending duel between Roberto Luongo and Dan Cloutier, as the latter had returned briefly after battling injuries and a feud with Kings management. For much of the game Cloutier was stopping everything while Luongo was hardly being tested. In the third period, however, the Kings broke the tie, instilling fear into the hearts of many Canucks fans. For those who had bashed Cloutier so much, many were fearful that the Canucks might lose to him in the only meeting ever between Cloutier and Vancouver.

Of course, we scored a late one and won it in OT, just barely squeaking out a win against a team that had our number all year. Cloutier stopped 39 of 40; Roberto, 17 of 18:

One of the more interesting regular season games in recent times between the Kings and Canucks, only because of the goaltenders and the potential shutout Cloutier might have had if not for a late Vancouver goal.
