It feels like we have Sproul for the #1 PP on the right and then likely Smith on the second unit. Really, I think the Wings have a lot of talent on the right side and not quite so much on the left side.

I suppose two of the wilder-cards would be Almquist and Backman. Almquist absolutely has the hockey sense, vision, and passing, but I'm not convinced of his ability to crack an NHL lineup, even as a PP specialist. I haven't watched Backman, but I know he plays PP and is certainly racking up the assists in the SEL. However, he has almost no goals and that's a little worrying. You need both guys on the PP to be a shooting threat, at least in theory.

Actually, kind of weird, really: across all competition for Backman since the 2007-2008 season, he only has 20 goals. in 284 games.
Well Brendan Smith still qualifies as a prospect and is left handed with #1 PP upside. And are you really surprised that a two way defenseman only gets a goal every 14 games?
