This team claimed it "changed it's philosophy" back when it was starting the rebuild with Hall/RNH.

This team never changed it's philosophy. It's playing the same fundamental style of game as it did in the post-2006 struggle years.

We fill our roster full of one-dimensional skill players that get shut down by bigger guys playing simpler 2-way games.

Look at the Cup winners of the last 2 seasons. BOS and LAK employ a style similar to that of STL - blue-collar forwards playing a gritty 2-way game and using elite-level defenses (Pietrangelo, Chara, Doughty) to set up great break-outs. As did ANA back in 2007.

Teams that stray away from this path and still have success (PIT, CHI, DET, CAR) do so because of incredible forward depth (CHI -Ladd/Byfuglien on 3rd line; CAR) or from generational-level players (Malkin, Crosby, Zetter/Dats/Lidstrom)

Our #1 problem this year is the same problem it was in 2006-2007 - we have a bunch of talented forwards (Hemsky, Sykora, Smyth, Lupul, Stoll, Torres), but no defense to feed them the puck. Our "breakout" is an embarrassment to professional hockey.

We have no structure to the way we start our break-out, and the closest we did come to this was back in the days we had Pitkanen/Visnovsky/Souray on our back end.

I don't understand why we move players like this and glorify players like Smid/Fistric/N.Schultz - who have the worst kind of one-dimensional play you can have as a defenseman. Zero transition ability and constantly stunning whatever momentum we have with their lack of passing/skating ability.
