The Blues are known to be shopping for a lefthanded shooting defenseman. Barret Jackman has an everyday spot in the lineup, but after him, it’s been a merry-go-round involving Ian Cole, Kris Russell and Wade Redden.

“The strength of our defense is our right side ... the left side has sort of been trial by error,” Armstrong said. “But this is our group right now and they have to find a way to come together. I know (associate head coach) Brad (Shaw) is working with them to find that proper mix.”

Using Armstrong’s words that clubs aren’t willing to trade experienced players for “the future,” it’s apparent that the Blues’ GM is consistent with his approach last summer that he’d prefer to move prospects or draft picks to fill in holes in the lineup. That hasn’t led to a deal yet.
