Swedish? I'm game. There's actually a really simple reason for why Finns and Swedes rarely completely bust. Whenever a kid is drafted out of those leagues, he is almost always playing against men (and having success) whereas North American players are generally playing against sketchy competition. This is doubly true for talents that are considered worthy of being a first round pick. You get to benchmark them against not only men, but kids in their same age range if they make the WJC teams.

2011:
Gabriel Landeskog
Adam Larsson
Mika Zibanejad
Jonas Brodin
Oscar Klefbom
Rickard Rakell

4 NHLers, and 2 soon to be.

2009:
Victor Hedman
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Magnus Paajarvi
David Rundblad
Jacob Josefson
Marcus Johansson

6 NHLers. Rundblad would realistically be playing for any other team.

2007:
Backlund

2006:
Backstrom
Persson
Berglund

You have to go back to 2006 to find your first flat out 1st round bust that came to NA from Sweden. Even then, you've got a very, very good player in Berglund taken right after him. The only problem with Swedes and Finns is projecting their upside. Nokelainen and Korpikoski, like Sjostrom, were first round picks. That being said, all three at least turned into useful NHL players. You really set yourself up for success when you take a kid already having success against full grown men. If OEL is the future of the franchise, it wouldn't hurt to surround him with a few fellow countrymen.
