It will speed up drying and keep the odour somewhat contained. Nothing revolutionary but compact and does the job really well.

More cheaper route would be to dry your gear out in your apartment, pack it up in your hockey bag, and then buy a big sturdy plastic bag or plastic storage container to enclose your hockey bag. This will prevent your gear from stinking up your apartment.
