He looked really sharp in the World Junior Championships and was the only other American who participated besides Seth Jones who is 2013 draft eligible. He plays a physical in your face game and projects to be a two-way power forward. He's also settled into the center role quite well and is good at faceoffs. Did I mention David Backes is his role model?
"I like to look at David Backes [of the St. Louis Blues]. He's a captain. He's a leader. He might be a few inches taller than me. I'm not too worried about height. I don't have a guy under 6-foot on my dad's side. My uncle is 6-5, another uncle is 6-6, my dad is 6-2. My dad didn't grow until college — late bloomers in our family."
Just a really strong draft, so many very good players in the top 40 or so. That is really interesting about his height though. If he does end up 6'2 in a year or two then he will project as a C at NHL level, right now it is more likely on the wing in the NHL.
I said before, last year I had 2 or 3 guys I really wanted us to get. 2011 it was 4 or 5. There are about a dozen or so I'd be really happy for us to pick this year!
