The Calgary Flames Hockey Club announced today that they have signed defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon from the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League to an entry level contract.

Wotherspoon, who had career highs in points (37), assists (30) and tied his previous goal total (7) finished the regular season with an astounding +62 which was the second highest total in the WHL. He has two goals and two assists in five playoff games this post season as the Winterhawks are currently leading Everett three games to two. He represented Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships scoring a goal and adding an assist in six games. Wotherspoon was drafted by the Flames in the 2nd round (57th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Contract terms: Three year entry level contract at $925,000 per season with an average annual value of $925,000.

Dan O'Toole: "So if I have this right, only acceptable goal celebration in NHL is to put hands at your sides and then feel shame."
