Wood sticks tend to stay in one piece a long time, but lose their pop really quickly. Composites will feel exactly the same until they break.

And how often they break really varies. They way people talk about them in terms of NHL Hockey, you'd think they snap left and right. They don't- if you use a flex appropriate to you and don't take the massive hacks on your sticks with the massive stresses pros put on them, composites will last forever. Unless the blade goes bad.
