Canucks AGM Laurence Gilman said acquisition of Derek Roy "potentially" changes the asking price on Roberto Luongo. For example, a W or D.
Canucks GM on team1040, dropping news left and right.

Full interview as per CCF23

Gilman:

Deal has been in the works for a bit. Dallas wasn't sure what direction they were headed in.

Liked that he was dynamic. Will come in as 3rd C, likely playing with Higgins and Hansen. Ideally your 3rd line C is 6'4 220LBS and can shut down the other team's top line. We're not built like a typical team.

Roy can take faceoffs, play 20 mins a game, at times has been a 30 goal scorer in the NHL. Aside from on ice, provides and emotional lift for the team. With injuries, etc, will provide a big boost.

This deal potentially means the asking price on Luongo has changed. Talking about Kesler having played wing in the past.

Deal means we don't need a C in the Luongo trade. Can look more at a winger or D man now.

Asked about Clowe. Can't answer that question. Talking about a player on another team with a NTC who can essentially select where he goes. Dimension of the deal with a player with NTC becomes a 3 year deal. Contract extension plays in. A lot of moving parts.

Goaltender market - clearly discussion going on around the league. If teams that are not the Vancouver Canucks are in discussion for acquiring a goaltender, it stands to reason that those teams would be discussing goaltending deals with us.

We're not done trying to improve the team. We're looking to make at least one more move. Possibly two. Working every angle.

Are we good enough now? Competitive enough, but would still like to give ourselves a better chance. Would like to see what our team looks like when the dust settles tomorrow.

Kassian in the AHL because he hasn't played in a couple weeks. In a playoff race, trying to win a division, we need to get him down playing games to the extent where he can adjust to playing again. We don't have the luxury to let him do that in the NHL right now.

With Raymond out, Sweatt in for speed reasons.

Kassian needs to play well to get back up to the NHL. Not a given he'll be back.

Higgins is "7th forward". Player who is a top level 3rd liner who has the ability to play top 6 and to move around within top 6, and play all 3 forward positions. Part of PK, and has been used 2nd unit PP. Exceptional human being. Made it very clear he wanted to stay in Vancouver. Told us from the moment he got here he loved it here. Looked at the market, and like many players (Sedins, Burrows, Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, Garrison), they've all bought in. Agreed that if we're gonna do this together, it means we'll take less. Chris left money on the table to play here.

Gilman won't talk about cap specifics. Booth is already on LTIR. Booth won't be returning "for the season". Won't say if Manny is on LTIR.

Deal could happen in the next 15 minutes for all he knows. Could happen tomorrow.

"We know we have a chance to compete to win the cup, and to do that, we need to have a complete roster". Need another forward, and would look at another D man for our bottom pairing. I guess we're "all in".
