as others have stated, Whyte ave is about as cool as any street in Canada, and I've been to every important street this country has (Robson, Queen, Cresent are busier and higher end, but not any cooler)

124 st has some nice restaurants (especially Greek) and Jazz coffee shops, and it is the Art Gallery street of the city.

and, of course, there is Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall (WEM).

you will hear that 118th ave is the worst street, not only in the City but in the whole province, and, after 9pm, it is true. (it is on the level of Dundas and Sherbourne, probably not as scary as Jane and Finch, nowhere near as bad as East Hastings in VCR) but, during the day, it has clean up alot. Galleries, ethnic coffee shops and bakeries. just don't leave your vehicle there over night.
