With Step and Brass on the big club already and Miller - and especially Lindberg - knocking on the door (and with MSC and Nieves waiting in the wings), I would think that they woud be looking to replace him from within. Especially since the major motivation is to clear the contract. Not sure how signing Malkin (not that I'd be against it - I just wouldn't count on it) helps with that.
