Because in the past there have been clear displays of players turning their career around in another city, under another team. And when the kid is 24, there is still a lot of room to grow. I wonder what would have happened to Bernier and Schneider if they played the first 3 seasons of their career for the worst team in the league.

Have some creativity. The players YOU want are not always available. So all a team can do is take risks and hope they pay off.
