“I just think some of the personnel is playing better,” said coach John Tortorella, who has added diminutive Norwegian winger Mats Zuccarello to his first unit.
“I think Zuke has added something to it, and we’re finding a way to score goals.”
In a stretch of 11 games from March 12 to April 1, the Rangers went 2-for-23 and it seemed like no matter how good the chances were, they couldn’t get a goal. Saturday night, Brad Richards made a terrific pass from behind the net to set up Stepan, and Zuccarello made a patient pass to Nash in the slot for the second one, which gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
“There has been much more puck possession with it,”
said Tortorella, whose power play is 5-for-11 in the past three games.
Nash buried the Rangers’ second power-play goal of the game off a pass from Mats Zuccarello at the point that just wasn’t seen on this team two weeks ago.
“He’s added a lot of hockey sense to our lineup,” Richards said of his new linemate.
