Hawks shockingly better road record this year

The Hawks' record is obviously great by any standard. Even the optimists didnít predict there would be so much improvement from last year with only a few roster changes. From a team perspective we can point to better play in goal (huge), better D depth, vastly improved PK, Leddy and Saad, Kane having a new breakout season, etc. But coming at it from a different perspective, the Hawks are better this year because they have dramatically improved their play on the road.

The 2013 team is on pace for 65 pts/41 games and +34 goals at home, only a little better than the 2012 team that had 60 pts and +30 goals. But look at the road records! The 2013 team is on a (remarkable) pace for 69 pts/41 games and +65 goals compared to last yearís dismal 41 pts and -16 goals.

2013 vs. 2012 at 82 game rate: Home +5 pts/+4 goals, Road +28 pts/+81 goals.

Home ice advantage isnít what it used to be, but being able to win on the road is usually a good sign for the playoffs.
